Linking of test results and numerical models to estimate service life and residual load-bearing capacity of a structure

MAINTENANCE

Data storage in the database for more efficient and high-quality management and maintenance

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Road and railway infrastructure buildings require more rationally planned maintenance in order to minimize the consequences of their inevitable degradation. Proper maintenance of this type of building can greatly increase user safety and reduce the risk of collapse. The project is aimed at developing an autonomous robotic system and unmanned aerial vehicle with detailed inspection methods. Combining the developed systems with numerical modeling of structures will enable the assessment of their load-bearing capacity and service life, timely response and ultimately lower maintenance costs.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering (GF) of the University of Zagreb is the main beneficiary and coordinator of the project. The project is implemented in cooperation with partners, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FSB) of the University of Zagreb. By connecting the fields of construction, robotics and computing, an interdisciplinary unit has been created that offers an innovative solution for the maintenance, monitoring and management of transport infrastructure buildings. It will become a strong strategic partner to the public and private sector and form a kind of competitiveness cluster in the field of construction modernization.

The project in duration of 36 months (December 20, 2019 – December 19, 2022) has a total value of HRK 7,199,141.25, of which HRK 6,044,277.43 is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund within the call ‘’Investment in science and innovation – first call KK.01.1.1.04’’.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The ultimate goal of the ASAP project is to develop a system for autonomous inspection and prediction of the integrity of transport infrastructure, as part of intelligent transport systems and logistics for the maintenance of road and railway infrastructure. In order to achieve the ultimate goal, the following objectives have been set that need to be achieved during the project:

OBJECTIVE 1

To investigate the possibility of applying modern measuring technologies for building inspection and numerical modeling in order to assess the load-bearing capacity and service life of the structure.

OBJECTIVE 2

To establish a strong interdisciplinary core that connects construction with horizontal themes of robotics and ICT as drivers of development.

OBJECTIVE 3

Development of a system for storing data in a database available to end users for more efficient and secure management of buildings.
